The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 is a high-end Ada Lovelace architecture consumer GPU, launched in November 2022. It provides flagship-tier performance at a lower price point than the RTX 4090, targeting enthusiasts who want top-tier gaming without maximum cost.
The RTX 4080 uses the AD103 die with 16GB of GDDR6X memory providing 717 GB/s bandwidth. It includes 9,728 CUDA cores, 304 fourth-generation Tensor Cores, and 76 third-generation RT cores. TDP is 320W, significantly lower than the RTX 4090's 450W.
Fourth-generation Tensor Cores and DLSS 3 with Frame Generation bring AI-accelerated performance to the RTX 4080. The combination of strong native rasterization, hardware ray tracing, and AI frame generation enables excellent 4K gaming performance.
The RTX 4080 faced initial criticism regarding its value proposition relative to the RTX 4090 and previous generation, which NVIDIA addressed with the Super refresh in 2024. It remains a strong choice for high-end gaming, particularly in configurations where the RTX 4090's power requirements are impractical.
